MANGO HILL MONTESSORI FAMILY DAY CARE – Natalie Lawrence 0405 299 394

About Me

Hello, I’m Natalie and welcome Mango Hill Montessori Family Day Care. I grew up in the local area before moving to Scotland with my family in 1998. I lived and worked there for 8 years and in that time met my husband John.  We married in 2006 and decided to return to Brisbane soon after we were married. We moved to Mango Hill in 2012 after spending 5 years in Dakabin. We started our family together in 2008 with the arrival of Scott. Our second son Ben arrived in early 2010 and lastly Oliver who was born April 2014.

Prior to starting my career in Family Day Care I was the assistant branch manager of the Commonwealth Bank at Redcliffe. I started there not long after I arrived back in Brisbane from the UK. I have not returned to the bank since I had Scott.

I chose my career in Family Day Care when I returned to work in 2011 as this allows me the opportunity to spend as much time with my 3 boys as possible. I believe in providing an environment which is secure, caring, loving, and nurturing and I strive to create a home that is warm and welcoming to those who visit.

I hold a Diploma of Early Education and Care as well as Certificate III in Children’s Services.

About the home

Our home can be a very busy one with 3 boys coming and going along with your family day care children spending the day with us immersed in our activities. The children have access to most of the open plan downstairs area including, playroom, living room, bathroom, office (for rest times) and the backyard. Our playroom is carefully set up with the Montessori philosophy in mind, inviting the children to explore and learn as they grow. Our backyard consists of patio, lots of shade, cubby house and sandpit.

What to expect each day

Each day we follow a flexible routine, which includes:

  • Outside play
  • Inside play
  • Excursion to another FDC Educators home for playgroup
  • Montessori work cycle
  • Rest or sleep periods
  • Meals

Having a flexible routine works well with a small group of children. It allows those who need an earlier nap to have one or those who are hungry to eat when they wish. I don’t have a set meal time for the children I offer them meals regularly but they soon learn where the lunch fridge is and will help themselves to their lunchboxes. The house layout works so the children can have access to both inside and outside play most of the day as they can be supervised in both areas at the same time. Some days we like to go out and about and some days we will stay home and just be with our group. Each day is different and the plan is never set in stone.

When we venture out in the car the children are all restrained in age appropriate car seats for travel. The car undergoes an annual roadworthy and the car seats are also checked for appropriate installation to ensure the children are in the correct seats for their age and size.

Regular outings allow the children the opportunity to be part of a larger group setting and meet other Educators. This helps their development of social skills and allows them to be part of the local community. Some of our excursions may include:

  • strawberry farm
  • other Family Day Care homes for playgroup
  • visits to the local school for school events
  • local parks
  • music box class

Care Includes

The following items will be provided:

  • Wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Linen
  • Mosquito spray

What you need to provide

  • Spare Clothes - 2 sets of sun smart clothing
  • Nappies
  • Sun smart hat
  • Milk (bottles if required)
  • Drink bottle with water
  • Healthy lunchbox
  • Appropriate shoes that can be put on and off with minimal assistance

There are days where we will get very messy during our learning time and we will need spare clothes to change into. I would also appreciate your child to be dressed in sun smart play clothes ready to participate in the day’s activities. I am happy to wash any clothes that get messy from play.

Any formula or milk will need to be supplied along with any bottles if required. I need a leakproof drink bottle sent with your child every day that is suitable to take on excursions with us.

Parent-Carer relationship
I believe in open and honest communication between all parties. We are a partnership, and need to collaborate to provide the best care for your child. I offer high quality, play-based, hands-on early learning and school preparation program, and not simply a babysitting service. We need to all be on the same page and have a joint investment in the ongoing care and well-being of your child.

Fees are $9.50 per hour with a minimum of 7 hours per day. Fees are paid to I AM Montessori. You will be eligible for childcare rebates in much the same way as you would be with a childcare centre. This is arranged through I AM Montessori. Fees are subject to increase each year.

Service will be offered from 9am to 4pm. If you require care outside of these times I am happy to work this out with you.
